For the final project of the second term of the Master we built a team of 5 incredible professionals and artists. A very diverse and committed team that worked smoothly and efficiently for over two months: Jie Zheng (China), Francisco Rodríguez (Mexico), Jaap Evenhuis (Netherlands), Juancho Hernández (Colombia) and me.
We used “Tool to Idea” as our Concept Development strategy. Starting with the technology or medium we wanted to explore to arrive later to the idea or artistic concept. This approach was good because being students of a Master, it was better agree on what we wanted to explore to then see what we could build.
The technologies and mediums we agreed upon were: immersive experience, as we wanted to learn and use the immersive room available at the campus. Dynamic visuals built with shaders that could later react to external inputs; physical lights integrated into the digital projection environment; and sound to be performed live.
We wanted to build an immersive, audio reactive visual and light performance. After several weeks of work, we had a set of very interesting dynamic visuals built in TouchDesigner. We needed a concept to wrap it all together.
The Concept of Flux Topology
This immersive, audio-reactive performance explores the evolution of systems through continuous structural deformation. Set in a dark immersive room, the space acts as an endless canvas driven by a specially designed soundtrack and live percussion.
The narrative journey begins with the geometric alignment of cubes and infinite tunnels. Propelled by the pulsing soundtrack and drums, this strict architectural order destabilizes, revealing hidden organic textures and shapes that overtake the geometric world. Ultimately, the performance resolves into a new equilibrium—a vibrant, colourful landscape of dynamic and dancing particles entirely reshaped by the music.
The Visual Walkthrough
As it is very difficult to imagine the complete performance, here is a walkthrough of the flow, showing all the visuals used to build the show.
