Our planet is full of beautiful places, some of them very well hidden up in the mountains. Iguaque is a small lake, sacred to the ancient inhabitants of Colombia as it is the source of an old legend on the origins of humanity.
The legend relates that at the beginning of times a beautiful woman emerged from the waters of the lake with a baby in her arms. The goddess lived nearby the lake until the boy became a man, when they descended from the mountain to populate the world, sharing their wisdom with everyone. It was the origin of the ancient culture, Muiscas or Chibchas in Colombia. When they grew old, and the world was already populated, they returned to lake Iguaque, followed by their people. As they walked to the lake and touched the water, they became two magnificent serpents and were lost in the deep waters.
This work shows lake Iguaque and nearby locations in Boyacá, Colombia.
